We arrived shortly before mid day due to other commitments on the 4th, only to find that although the sun was on the mountains at the top end of the valley, there was no sun at all on the lake or the screes. So the photography didn,t look too promising. We drove to the northern end of the lake, the area around the 'village' of Wasdale Head, where the light looked most promising. After half an hour or so we had more or less exhausted the possibilities and well, the pub was just up the road, so a nice lunch seemed a very attractive proposition and it would give the sun time to work it's way around into the main part of the valley.
Lunch at the Wasdale Head Inn was very good and once we emerged from the pub, sure enough, the light conditions had improved enough to try some more photography.
The view of Great Gable fron Wasdale Head. This was one of the pre lunch images.
Again a pre lunch view of Great Gable. With poor light on the lake, it was the best part of the valley for photography.
Post lunch, things had changed, though the midday light was very contrasty and a few clouds in the perfect blue sky would have added a bit more interest. Am I being picky?
With this shot I was trying to capture the essnce of Wasdale. The component parts are water, mountains, rocks and wind blown gorse.
