Kandersteg, a beautiful Alpine village amidst the peaks of the Oberland. Kandersteg markets itself as "a community of a thousand people at a thousand metres".
The protesant church in the centre of the village.
Kandersteg is surrounded by mountains, the highest being The Blumlisalp at over twelve thousand feet.
Kandersteg is well served by the Lotschberg line and sits at the northern end of The Lotschberg Tunnel, an eleven mile tunnel that connects Kandersteg with the Valais.
And if you have to leave, there are worse stations to have to wait at.
The main road has several shops, cafes and plenty of hotels.
Central Kandersteg.
Aux Vieux Chalet tea rooms.
On our recent stays we have booked into the self catering chalets in the grounds of the Hotel Chalet Adler, having the benefits and comfort of self catering, but the facilities of the hotel close to hand. The chalet that we stayed in can be seen in this photo.
This is our outlook from the balcony of our chalet.
The Blumlisalp.
I intend to add more of our time in Kandersteg over the coming days. These blogs will how something of the walks that we did and the fabulous, wild, alpine flowers that we discovered during our time there.
